Darin Slack Quarterback Academy and Top Gun Challenge team up to make a difference in the lives of young men

Orlando, FL - Nationally respected Quarterback training program, Darin Slack Quarterback Academy (DSQA), has acquired ownership of the Top Gun Challenge, with a pledge to position the event as the premier High School quarterback skills competition in the nation.  The focus of the combined efforts of DSQA and Top Gun will continue to be the growth of character and leadership in athletes through competitive sports training and development.

DSQA has been training quarterbacks since 1988, working with over 16,000 athletes, many of whom have gone on to excel at the collegiate and professional levels.  Most recently, Matt Flynn of LSU, winners of the 2007 BCS National Championship commented on his relationship with DSQA, “I trust Coach Slack with my mechanics.  His training put me in the position to win the BCS National Championship MVP.”

The Top Gun Challenge, created by Jason Allen and Gus Malzahn in 2004, is designed to be the ultimate showcase for elite quarterbacks outside of playing on a Friday Night.  At the Challenge, each quarterback is instructed, tested and evaluated on six separately scored events that combine to recognize the Champion of the Top Gun Challenge.  Past challenges have included standouts Kodi Burns of Auburn, Mitch Mustain of USC, Tyler Wilson of Arkansas and Matt Simpson of Harvard.  Coach Slack describes the event as, “that ‘playground throw-down’ opportunity to show what each QB can do to be respected on a whole new level as a legitimate prospect at this position.”

DSQA and Top Gun programs in 2008 will include qualifying events in nine states leading to a championship in Tulsa, OK on July 25-26.  These promise to deliver the highest quality training with an intense competition.

“This relationship will create an even greater opportunity for talented young athletes to demonstrate their skills at the quarterback position in a fun, competitive environment.” Says Mark Klein, Director of Business Development at DSQA.
