2007 - A YEAR FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS!

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE, MATT FLYNN FINALLY GETS THE BALL HE ALWAYS WANTED, AND MVP HONORS TO SWEETEN THE DEAL
For the past few years, I have had the offseason privilege of training Matt Flynn, MVP of the 2008 BCS Championship Game, in his throwing mechanics, footwork, and leadership. Watching him patiently wait for his turn in the shadow of Jamarcus Russell, and then upon getting his chance, only to have talk of Ryan Perrilloux constantly in the background, he showed phenomenal character in beating the odds. Despite a season that included a severe high ankle sprain, a separated shoulder, and sharing time with a backup, he led LSU to multiple last minute comebacks, with two games coming down to the final play (Alabama and Auburn) with the ball in his hands. Each time he demonstrated why he was always the right choice for the LSU Tigers this season. Both passes went for TDs, and kept alive LSU’s hopes to do what Matt got to do tonight – Hold the Crystal Ball! Overcoming constant adversity, he finally was able to heal up for the BCS game, and in doing so, he showed what he was capable of doing, throwing 4 TDs and engineering a convincing defeat of Ohio State’s #1 defense. He has secured a National Championship, an MVP award, the respect of the LSU nation, and what is sure to be a legitimate shot at the NFL. Way to Go, Matt – Congratulations!
Gary Crowton - LSU's Offensive Coordinator had this to say this summer about the DSQA program... : “Your program is fantastic, the best I have ever seen on throwing mechanics. We are now using your material with our QBs at LSU. I am totally sold on what you are trying to do, and I want you to work with my son next off season.”
UCF - Conference USA Championship for longtime DSQA QB Kyle Israel
After years of striving to achieve the starter role for the UCF Knights, Kyle Israel, stepped onto the National stage early helping the Knights put then #5 ranked Texas on notice with a last minute loss, that the Knights were for real! Kyle put up the numbers that would seal a Conference USA Championship over Tulsa, and a trip to the Liberty Bowl where he would face another longtime DSQA QB in Mississippi State's Wes Carroll - a true freshman out of St. Thomas Aquinas HS who took over the starting role in week 2 of the 2007 season. Congratulations Kyle on a great career at UCF!
JENKS HS, OK does it again! Back to Back State Championships!
Payback is sweet! Jenks HS Head coach Allan Trimble, and DSQA Camp Director and Jenks Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach Dub Maddox, were feeling the pain early in September when an extra point in triple overtime failed, giving their storied rival Union HS the victory. But not to be swayed, the staff rallied the troops, and under the leadership of Mark Ginther, Multi-year DSQA QB, PrepNation SW Regional Player of the Year, and Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year, engineered an impressive run of wins, including a convincing payback defeat of the Union juggernaut in the State finals. Featured on NFL Films 'Backyard Rivalries' this season, Allan Trimble demonstrated why his current run of 9 State Championships in 12 years, and an astounding coaching record of 146-15!, is no fluke. His character, leadership, and staff are as impressive as his players. Congratulations to the entire Jenks faithful, and thanks to Coach Maddox for letting us play in your sandbox!
Arkansas Greenwood HS Wins again! Jones leads Bulldogs to 3rd Straight Title!
Greenwood HS, led by head coach Rick Jones, secured their overwhelming 3rd State title in as many years, after just missing it as a runner-up in Jones' first year. Since then, it has been all RINGS! Tyler Wilson, who recently committed to a full ride to Arkansas under new coach Bobby Petrino, has been under Jones' tutelage in QB play. Coach Jones(180-55), considered one of the top HS coaches in the country, has his own list of impressive accolades, receiving OK/AR Coach of the Year 8 times, has been an encouraging friend of the DSQA... , “I have coached for thirty years and have visited with quarterback coaches from the NFL, major college, and high school ranks. I believe that Darin Slack is the very best teacher of quarterbacks that I know…His system is based on sound fundamentals and thorough instruction... I have bought tapes from many different sources over the years and have found that his are the best of their kind. To put it simply, his system works….I think that while there are a number of people who know how to throw the football, none of them have the ability to teach the skill of throwing the football as well as Darin Slack. He has the heart of a teacher, and that is makes him special in his field.” Congratulations Coach Jones!
Curt Phillips posts "Tebow like" numbers, signs D1 scholarship to play Big Ten Ball!
Kingsport, TN - Curt Phillips is wearing a lot warmer clothing these days as he settles into classes at the University of Wisconsin. Phillips, a 6'3"/215 lb Tebow-like QB that runs a 4.6 40, graduated early to take advantage of the scholarship offer from the Big Ten Badgers. Phillips, a 4 year DSQA veteran, led Sullivan South to a 12-2 record and distinguished himself as a D1 prospect by posting a Tennessee State record in combined passing/rushing TDs and yards. Curt's 1,185 rushing yards, 2,263 passing yards, combined with 40 rushing TDs, and 17 passing TDs was an incredible feat of athleticism. He is the only QB signed by Wisconsin this year and will be competing early for a spot on the depth chart. Congratulations Curt, on an amazing season and a special opportunity at Wisconson. We wish you all the best!... "Coach Slack has played a critical role in Curt's development over the last four years. As a physician, I have been most impressed with Coach Slack's knowledge of biomechanics, proper throwing motion, and ability to teach a player. Curt's accuracy, ability to self-correct, and remove painful problems was extremely helpful. You can find many good QB coaches that can teach you drills to make you more consistent, but Coach Slack takes you to another level of understanding how to execute more accurately and create the ability to, "perfect practice that makes perfect." His program will optimize any player's chances of early playing time and success." - Dr. Jim Phillips - Father
Marshyl Rothman rockets Jupiter Christian to its first State Championship!
Marshyl Rothman, Sophomore QB at 1B Jupiter Christian school in Southeast Florida, rallied the Eagles to their first ever State Championship! Congratulations to coach Bill Powers, and Marshyl, a current DSQA QB, for leading his team to Orlando, and finishing strong by bringing home the title! ..."The training Marshyl receives working with Coach Slack and his staff was key to building a solid foundation both on the field and off the field. Darin has taught my son that being a championship quarterback is much more than just throwing the ball. We always look foward to training at DSQA." - Ryan Rothman - Father
CJ Croft leads Fort Campbell to the promised Land!
CJ Croft started with the DSQA 5 years ago, the son of Army Colonel Chris Croft, who is currently serving in Iraq, and showed every year in his improvement, that he was destined for greatness. Well he realized it this season, leading Fort Campbell HS to the State Championship in Kentucky! Under the leadership of Head Coach, and DSQA Camp Host, Shawn Berner, Croft directed the Eagles to capture another State Championship. CJ was awarded All-State honors. Congratulations CJ and Coach Berner!
Ryan Becker leads St. Thomas Aquinas to Victory, finally!
Fourth time is charm for St. Thomas Aquinas HS Coach George Smith, and Junior QB and longtime DSQA QB Ryan Becker, as they finally secured the 5A Florida State Championship. Each of the past 3 years, the Raiders were in the finals only to be thwarted by then national powerhouse Lakeland HS, but this time it was all Aquinas in the win over Osceola HS! Congratulations to Ryan and Coach Smith for getting it done this year! St. Thomas Aquinas has been host to DSQA QB camps for the past 12 years, and Coach Smith continues to be a big supporter of the program... , “Coach Slack’s work with our QBs is what put us in a position to be able to compete in 9 State Championship finals, in the past 12 years.”
Also, to Marqueis Gray and Star Jackson, multi year DSQA Camp QB attendees, Congratulations on your excellent showing in US Army All American Game!
